Casa Publica is a renowned South American-inspired bar and eatery located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Situated at 180 Armagh Street in the city’s central area.
Casa Publica brings South America to downtown Christchurch. ‘Your Weekend’ magazine in 2016 noted the venue features “embroidery, faded glory, velvet curtains, chandeliers [and] museum-style display cases” which “aims to capture the essence of the story of a fictional South American chap who ran rum in the US during Prohibition.”
In November 2024, a mural by Christchurch-based Samoan artist Kophie Su’a-Hulsbosch was unveiled on the corner of Armagh and Manchester Streets on the exterior of Casa Publica. The mural honors the resilience and strength of Pacific people during the Dawn Raids. This mural stands as a powerful testament to the community’s journey.
There are always stories at Casa Publica, and our venue is a great place to share them.
